Ferrari 599 Review

At the last of time, Ferrari launched with two-seat V12 Berlinetta engine, front-engined like the 599 GTB, this is a warning that the company does not always make exceptional motor cars. Maranello 575M in 2002 took a dynamic step back from the car he replaced, 550 Maranello.

Ferrari is unfriendly to poor reception from 575, and it seems frustrated that it is funneled into the design of this car.

The 599 GTB Fiorano presents a dazzling array of numbers. The high price is not so extraordinary in the face of a clear competition, but few people expect Ferrari to give cars more than 600bhp. Thus, it has produced a sports GT with the potential to outperform many more exclusive machines.

In theory, it can tracking the 599 legacy for the first front-engined Ferrari sports car, but in fact its lineage begins with the legendary 250 GT.

Rapid and dramatic machines with very long heads continued when Ferrari showed 275 GTB and Daytona until the company chose the mid-engined format for its 12-cylinder engine from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s.

550 Maranello hinted the return of a large Ferrari V12 with a long hood and nothing behind the driver but luggage and 100 liters without lead. We loved it.

Ferrari has used much more advanced basics for 599 compared to its 550 and 575M predecessors. The tubular steel chassis of these cars has been replaced by aluminum chassis to bring much better stiffness and reduce mass. The fuel tank is now within a longer wheelbase, carrying a moment of polar inertia and a lower center of gravity.

Enzo V12 5999cc is then reformatted for this GT application and the following numbers are set: 612bhp at 7600rpm (can rotate to 8400rpm if needed) and 448lb ft of torque at 5600rpm. In the condition of the claimed 1690kg restraint weight, which gives 599 power-to-weight ratios of 362bhp per tonne, well beyond the 291 offered by its predecessors that you can rightly conclude that this new car occupies an entirely new category. Let's call it a 'super GT'.

As always, Ferrari wants to remind us how much technology comes from its F1 studies. The 599 is available with a paddle-shift gearbox, using the latest super fast software. In the fastest setting, only 100 milliseconds pass between the clutch release and fully involve the next tooth. The 599 has a significant undersized aerodynamic tool, which brings claimed downforce of 160kg at 186mph.

The car uses a magnetorheological semi-active damper, so called because when a magnetic field is applied to the liquid in the damper reservoir, its viscosity changes almost instantaneously. This function, along with the speed of gearshift and traction control parameters and stability, is controlled by the buttons on the steering wheel.

599 can also be specified with an optional carbon-ceramic brake, measuring 398mm in front and 360mm at the rear.

Deliberately driver-centric, cabin 599 is a benchmark of gran turismo for a sense of style and innovation. But Ferrari deserves special praise for not allowing the style to compromise its efficiency as a workplace.

The sitting position is electrically adjustable, the only fault is that some people will want the wheels higher than running.
